What is Rotary

Thank you for stopping at this web page and I ask you to spend just a few minutes here.

Rotary is a Service Organisation which provides help to those in need. Members carry out this work in their own community and/or overseas by giving their time and their expertise. A Rotary Club is open to men and women who are managers of trades, businesses or professions who want to use their experience for the benefit of others. Those interested are invited to apply.

Rotarians will be delighted "to point them in the right direction."

In 2005/2006 the emphasis of the Service is towards the young people and young adults in our community. Within Great Britain and Ireland we plan to expand Rotary support for Young Enterprise so that those aged 16 to 18 can become aware of the intricacies of running a business.

The manipulative skills of young adults will be encouraged by assisting in the programmes of UK Skills and encouraging participants for the Skills competition run by the New Millennium Experience Company and the Princes Trust.

For overseas activities we hope to recruit more doctors to register for the Rotary Doctor Bank where they can practise for short periods with support provided by Rotary. Opportunities also exist for young people to take part in Leadership Training schemes, exchanges with other countries for periods up to one year; plus activities to develop speaking, cooking and musical skills. This is part of the internationalism of Rotary International - a service organisation which exists in more than 160 countries represented by 29,000 Clubs and 1.2 million members.

If you have an idea for a community project with which you would like assistance please contact your local Rotary Club. If you would like more information about us please contact Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland on 01789 765411 or on e-mail at secretary@ribi.org , Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland or email this club now via the home page
